Scrub AI was born from the collective expertise of our founding team, Andrew, Alex, and Nicola.

Driven by a shared passion for data and cutting-edge technology, plus years of manual data cleaning experience, the team recognised the significant challenges faced by the insurance industry.

Leveraging their expertise in machine learning and insurance, and with the help of a fantastic team, they have built an intelligent data cleaning platform which achieves near-complete automation of costly and labour-intensive processes.

Alex Ley

Co-founder & CEO

Alex has an MBA from the IE Business School and previously spent 6+ years building and scaling full-stack enterprise products. A hands-on developer with expertise in software architecture, cloud, and performance engineering, and a contributor to major open-source Python & Rust libraries, he now leads the development of Scrub AI’s scalable, reliable enterprise platform.

Mike has 6+ years of experience in data analytics, most recently as a Data Scientist at Facebook and Profitability Lead at Stuart Delivery. Mike excels at generating insights from data, building meaningful KPIs, and is a pandas/SQL wizard.

Axel van Lith - Machine Learning Engineer

Axel van Lith

Lead Machine Learning Engineer | Founding Team

Axel has a Masters in Machine Learning from UCL where he focussed on NLP and worked with Pontus to implement an Anisotropic Hierarchical Vector Quantizer. Axel excels at generating augmented and synthetic data in order to boost the accuracy and robustness of large NLP transformer models.

Mark Turner - Product Support Engineer

Product Support Engineer

Mark has a level 3 certification in customer service and is applying that knowledge at Scrub in order to streamline customer on-boarding and issue resolution. He has 4+ years of experience in the BMW Service Department, so he is well placed to provide support to our clients as we grow. Having also worked with Scrub when we started, he is also familiar with the product and the data and will be helping to test and develop the product too.

Eleanor Malyon

Senior Product & Technical BD Manager

Eleanor has 4+ years’ experience in the insurance sector as a Catastrophe Modelling and Data Analyst. She has joined us to assist with the understanding of complex insurance data processing and develop the product to enhance the user experience. She will also be working alongside Nicola to explore new client partnerships and opportunities for business development.

Andrew Brooks

AI Product Engineer

Andy is a recent graduate of The University of Edinburgh specialising in Natural Language Processing and Linguistics. Particular areas of interest include speech synthesis/recognition, machine translation, corpus linguistics, and sentiment analysis. He comes on board as a Data Annotator & Prompt Engineer to help advance our ML models.

Julie Mesi

Marketing and Communications Manager

Julie has 7+ years of marketing experience, with a strong background in insurance and insurtech. She holds a Master’s in Marketing from the University of Bath and brings experience across brand, communications, digital marketing, content and events. At Scrub AI, Julie leads the company’s marketing, building our presence across the insurance market and making sure our technology, expertise and impact are communicated in a way that resonates with the industry.

Takrim Rahman Albi

Full-stack Software Engineer

Takrim specialises in building secure, scalable distributed systems. With expertise in backend technologies and a passion for delivering cutting-edge solutions, Takrim excels in software and system engineering, software and system architecture, and data science. His skill set includes proficiency in Django, Flask, FastAPI, React, TensorFlow, and PyTorch, among others. Takrim’s commitment to excellence is evident in his extensive experience across various domains and technologies.

Kateryna Yefremova

QA Engineer

Kate is an ISTQB-certified QA Software Engineer with 5+ years of experience across different industries and teams. She joined us to set up a testing process, increase test coverage, and improve product quality by applying her professional skills, best practices, and passion for spotting inconsistencies. Kate also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Programming Engineering and a Master’s in Management of Organisations and Administration.

Elliott Green

Senior Business Development Manager

Elliott brings 22+ years’ experience in the London insurance market, including 14+ years working with insurance technology. With strong roots in delegated authority, he has built long-standing relationships and an extensive network across the market.

At Scrub, Elliott brings a wealth of market knowledge to the team, helping us stay close to the delegated space, open the right conversations and build strong relationships with the teams working within it.

Benjamin Gopal

Senior Business Development Manager

Ben brings 6+ years of experience across the London insurance market, with a strong background in insurance technology across Cat Modelling and Delegated Authority.

Having worked with insurers, brokers and MGAs to help them navigate the technology landscape, before moving into managed services, Ben brings a strong understanding of both the challenges teams face and the technology that can help solve them.

As Senior Business Development Manager at Scrub, Ben focuses on building new relationships and partnerships across the market, while supporting our existing clients with their evolving data needs.

Patrick Archer

Business Development Manager

Patrick brings 4+ years’ experience in the London insurance market, with a strong background in Catastrophe Risk and Exposure Management. Most recently at Aviva, he helped grow their Global Corporate & Specialty team across underwriting, exposure management and claims.

As Business Development Manager at Scrub, Patrick brings strong relationships across the Cat Risk community and a deep understanding of the teams we work with. He works alongside Nicola, Eleanor, Ben and Elliott to build new client partnerships and drive business growth.

Sofiane BĂ©bert

Senior Software Engineer

Sofiane is an experienced engineering leader and hands-on developer with a strong background in building AI-driven platforms. He previously spent over six years as Co-Founder and CTO of Dicey Tech, where he focused on turning complex skills data into actionable insights.

With deep expertise across front-end and back-end systems, Sofiane plays a key role in shaping and scaling Scrub AI’s platform.

Arnie is a freelance information security consultant, auditor, and a member of IST/33/1, the UK National Standards Body’s technical committee responsible for development of ISO/IEC 27000 family of standards.  Arnie has supported our ISMS though its design, implementation, and certification by a UKAS accredited certification body and continues to work with the Board on information security related matters

Advisor

Pontus is an Associate Professor in Natural Language Processing at University College London (UCL), Head of the UCL NLP research group, and Deputy Directory of the UCL Centre for Artificial Intelligence. He has 10+ years of experience as a leading NLP researcher with more than 60 publications that have been cited more than 2,500 times and has served and currently serves as an advisor to several startups.
